Students’ wellbeing survey results
Students’ wellbeing survey for the University Supports-project was open to students from the project's higher education institutions from March 27th to April 23rd, 2023. Total number of responses was 1878, with a response rate of 3.4 %. The students who responded to the survey were from all six higher education institutions participating in the project. Here are some of the results from the survey.
Wellbeing and coping with studies
- On a scale of 1 to 10, where 5 is an appropriate level of stress in relation to resources and recovery, the average response was 7.
- 80% of the respondents agreed that a significant part of their workload is caused by their studies
- 40% are able to recover sufficiently from stressful situations
- 1/3 of respondents find it easy and smooth to combine studies and other life activities
- Around half of respondents feel that their studies are flexible enough to cope with difficult life situations when necessary
- 2/3 of respondents feel that the way they study, such as group work, is stressful and overwhelming
- Around 2/3 of respondents find it difficult to concentrate on their studies
- Around half of respondents feel a sense of control over their studies
Social relations
- Almost 80% feel psychologically safe at their higher education institution, e.g. in terms of discrimination or harassment
- Around 2/3 of respondents have developed relationships through their studies that provide resources and satisfaction
- Just over 70% of respondents feel that their higher education institution has a good atmosphere
- Just under 30% feel that their institution pays enough attention to students’ mental wellbeing and mental health
Need for support
- Around half feel that their studies and/or the guidance and support they have received have helped them to cope with their studies

- 72.9% from my university staff
- 65.9% from peer support (other students)
- 60.8% from other student welfare services, e.g. YTHS
